Muscle of the Month Levator Scapulae
The Levator Scapulae can be found to the back and sides of the neck. Its main responsibility is for lifting and rotating the scapula (shoulder blade), and is also involved with other neck, arm, and shoulder movements.
If you find yourself suffering from tension and pain in this area there is a really simple stretch that we recommend that you try. This can be done if you find yourself seated for long periods of time.
Levator Scapulae Stretch
1. Bend your neck forwards, and then side-bend your neck by taking your left ear towards your left shoulder.
2. Hold on to a chair to make the stretch stronger.
3. This will allow you to feel a stretch at the back and side of your neck.
4. You can make the stretch stronger by assisting with your hand.
Hold for: 30 seconds, Repeat 3 times
